It is amazing to announce that we've funded just a little over a day from launching.
The support from this community and the devotion of our Witch Pleas Publishing fans - both present and future - is always astonishing and feels like such a blessing.
Thank each and every one of you, When the Stars Cried Despair backers, for being able to say that we will be printing in December 2025, to allow gaming groups to play out the prequel to our Castle Whiterock tie-in before that campaign launches in April 2026.
We're thrilled by the chance to bring this story to life, and to introduce you to some of Castle Whiterock's secret history in the process.
In particular, we're so grateful to those who have championed this project over the past months:
- Bahasa, definitely first in line, whose character inspired so much of Fort Saint Veronica, and who's been both editor and road crew judge for When the Stars Cried Despair, bringing it to AustiCon and, soon, to Feast of the Cyclops Con.
- Many luminaries on the StagQuest server, particularly Sasha, Chris Marshall, Ryan, Thorin Thompson, Anya, Tyler and Chris Stagno, all of whom have stepped up to assist in exceptional ways, providing feedback and advocacy.
- Andy Edmonds and Stefan Surratt, amazing creators in their own right who have promoted and encouraged this project right from the start.
- And, of course, everyone at Goodman Games, from Liam at "info@" all the way to Joseph, who inspired, supported and backed this project.
We know we risk becoming an Oscar speech at this point, and perhaps it's too late for that. So here are next steps now that we've funded!
- Do all we can to keep spreading the word about When the Stars Cried Despair, in order to reach new areas of the community, extend this awesome one-of-a-kind starter adventure, and hit those stretch goals
- Update our FAQ and our Story page based on some of the questions and feedback we've received
- Get ready for Feast of the Cyclops Con! As we mentioned above, Judge Bahasa will run When the Stars Cried Despair on Saturday - though it's sold out.
- Work with BackerKit to get the Early Follower rewards, the PDF of The Bride of Baal, out to you as soon as possible!
